Herbathin Overview

Also known as a Brazilian diet pill, Herbathin is a dietary supplements touted as the first Phytogenic Equalizer. “Phytogenic” means that the product is derived from plants. “Equalizer” refers to Herbathin’s promise to decrease appetite while increasing metabolism. The appeal of this particular weight-loss complex is the promise of continuing to eat what you want while dropping pounds. Herbathin combines more than twenty appetite suppressants and weight-loss ingredients including the popular Hoodia Gordonii. The company is celebrating its 5th anniversary with special promotions. The 2008 product is called Herbathin Xtrim, which pledges fast weight loss with minimal sacrifice. There is some controversy surrounding so-called Brazilian diet pills because of their use of prescription drugs and controlled substances as non-listed ingredients. In January of 2006, the FDA released a warning that “Herbathin Dietary Supplements May Be Harmful.” Chlordiazepoxide HCl (the active ingredient in Librium) and fluoxetine HCl (the active ingredient in Prozac) might be found in Herbathin, and these drugs can cause serious side effects. The Herbathin website maintains that their product does not contain any controlled substances.

Herbathin - Product Description

HerbathinThe latest weight-loss supplement from Herbathin is Xtrim, which contains over twenty active ingredients including Hoodia Gordonii, Cascara Sagada, and Chromax II. Hoodia Gordonii was patented in 1996 as an appetite suppressant. Although there is a lack of scientific evidence showing its effects on humans, Hoodia has quickly gained popularity. BBC reported on the supplement in 2003 and “60 Minutes” in 2004, in addition to other media outlets. Chromax is a brand name for chromium, which increases the activity of insulin, a hormone involved in metabolism. Herbathin also contains natural ingredients such as prune and fiber extracts. Most of these ingredients are available individually as weight-loss supplements. Most worrisome is that this product may contain controlled substances that can be dangerous.

Herbathin Advantage

  • The official website offers a money-back guarantee.
  • The website also offers some free promotions.
  • Herbathin does not require any dietary restrictions, although the website does make some recommendations.

Herbathin Drawbacks

  • The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning against Herbathin in 2006, although the website claims that the FDA has not evaluated the product.
  • The official website does not offer a complete list of ingredients.

Herbathin - The Bottom Line

The jury is still out on whether Herbathin is safe. The FDA issued a strong warning against the product in 2006; however, the Herbathin website maintains that the FDA has not evaluated their product. It is clear that Herbathin’s philosophy is something like “everything but the kitchen sink.” The company has basically combined as many appetite suppressants and metabolism increasers as possible into one product. The company does not seem to have completed any independent research, and this may not inspire confidence in potential Herbathin customers. Furthermore, the possibility that this product may contain illegal ingredients (prescription drugs without a prescription) might scare off everyone else. A physician should always be consulted before beginning a weight-loss regime. This advice is particularly important if that weight-loss regime includes Herbathin. It is probably best to heed the warning of the FDA and stay away.
