Some diets tell people to avoid bad carbs while other diets tell people they should count calories. Whether you are counting points or avoiding Tran’s fats, the fact remains that almost every diet tells you to avoid something.

Who knew there was a diet that told you to avoid almost everything?

The Lemonade Diet, also known as the Master Cleanse, has been in existence for well over 50 years and is still going strong.

Most recently, movie stars have used this diet to lose weight for starring roles in films. Therefore, it has caught the public’s attention all over again.

Let’s break down what exactly this diet is.

What is Lemonade Diet?

The Lemonade Diet is a body detox plan that has been around for decades. This diet is essentially a body cleanse which, allegedly, removes toxins and waste from the body that have accumulated over time.

But, how did these toxins and waste appear in the first place?

They are the result of eating poorly, not exercising and having pessimistic thoughts.

This diet only allows you to drink the lemon juice elixir for 10 days. Apparently, this is supposed to lead to the loss of 20 pounds of weight.

Almost anyone can see that the reason for the weight loss is because you are denying your body calories, fat, food everything.

This has caused many nutritionists to bash this diet for depriving the body of essential nutritional elements that are necessary to remain healthy.

How much weight can you lose on the Lemonade Diet?

The Claim: Drop 20 pounds in 10 days and cleanse your body of toxins.

The Truth: If you give up solid foods and consume only fluids, weight loss (at least in the short term) is inevitable.

They see it as a loose weight quick scheme that doesn’t last. As a matter of fact, this diet only causes you to lose water weight and muscle. Many experts feel this is detrimental to a person’s overall health.

After anywhere from 4-14 days of only consuming the lemonade drink (approx. six times a day) and saltwater, the dieter can ease back into eating solid food again. The recommended solid food is soup and produce.

Many nutritionists and doctors also feel that detoxing or cleansing the body can cause a negative psychological association with food. This negative association with food is unhealthy and should be avoided.

Alternative Diet Plans

Is it safe?

Many have pointed out the liver detoxifies the body for us. That is why it is there. There has been any conclusive medical evidence suggesting that cleanses or detoxes rid the body of any waste that isn’t already removed naturally.

However, there are people who swear by these kinds of diets. Many of these individuals believe that this is a natural remedy that must be taken in order to clean out our bodies.

However, there’s no scientific evidence that shows that the Lemonade Diet actually removes any toxins from the body.

To them, it is almost like spring cleaning for their bodies. They are starting new.

It is quite clear that the medical community thinks that this diet is a waste of time and that it does more harm than good. While there are those who disagree, it is your body.

You are the one who has the final say. However, make sure to think of your health before you think of your extra weight. When in doubt, speak to your doctor or nutritionist to get his or her expert opinion on the subject.
