Scotland, United Kingdom:
A survey to find out the reason for the limited use of (LARC) long-acting reversible contraceptives by the women in United Kingdom was undertaken in Scottish. The survey revealed that the reason behind this is the false beliefs and fears that the women have due to lack of proper information.
These contraceptives are very effective and are independent of daily or occasional compliance. (LARC) long-acting reversible contraceptives consist of contraceptive implants, intrauterine method and contraceptive injection.
These methods are very effective and help to prevent unplanned pregnancies, but still the use of these methods is very low in UK. The main reason that women gave, in a survey of 55, they are anxious about the weight-gain that may cause due to these methods, which is only a myth. There were also many other misconceptions that prevented many women from taking these long-acting hormonal contraception.
According to the survey that was published in the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care, many of them discarded the implants and coils just because they didn’t want the examinations or insidious methods. A few chose to take the birth control pills for the only reason that their friends or some relatives were using these pills.
Other research undertaken by the Department of Health (DH) along with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the Scottish Government revealed that many women are also scared that these (LARC) long-acting reversible contraceptives may affect their fertility.
The oral contraceptives are consumed y mouth to avoid pregnancy was introduced in the year 1960. According to the guesstimate of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, birth control pill is the most famous form of contraception which more than 12 million women in US and more than 60 million women around the whole world use. The pill contains progesterone and estrogen slows down the ovulation and hence prevents conception.
